Turbo failure?? - MoonMonkey : Been having engine management problems with my 2004 Mondeo TDCi. After lots of investigations, have finally been told it needs a new turbo. This is obviousaly a costly repair! Its been giving out code P2263 - "Unspecified turbo boost pressure problem, mechanical"

A Mondeo TDCi that refuses to start can be down to a number of issues. Firstly check for a faulty or badly connected battery. There may also be an issue with the alternator, fuel pump, or one of the sensors. First, remove the exhaust pipe all the way to the turbo, so you can see the turbine wheel. This should look clean, with no carbon build up, scale or oil along the surface, and the blades should be free from cracks, wear and damage. Finally, you can check the turbo housing at the exhaust end for any cracks or leaks, which will also affect
I have a 2009 Ford Mondeo 2.2 turbo diesel Titanium X estate which has developed an engine fault. The symptoms are the engine briefly hesitates, then the display shows 'Engine malfunction' and the car loses power due to the turbo shutting down. The engine still runs and the car can be driven but is obviously very low on power.
The 2.0 TDCi engines can “squeeze” similar or even better performance than the factory 2.2. The 2.2 TDCi diesel is the most powerful diesel in the Mondeo and significantly improved compared to its predecessor. It has only one turbo left, a more durable DPF and much better performance.
If you experience one of the Ford EcoBoost turbo problems which has something to do with the ignition, remove the plugs and coil boots and check for carbon tracks on the insulator of the plugs if you have a 3.5L EcoBoost in your shop with misfire code (s) P0300-0306. Remove all plugs and boots if there is any monitoring.
Corrosion or rust on the sensor or its wiring. Loose or damaged wiring connections. Cracked or broken sensor housing. An exhaust leak (leaking exhaust. If you spot any of these issues, it’s a strong indication that your Ford Mondeo’s oxygen sensor is faulty or failing and should be replaced.

the EGR valve/ system can cause all sorts of problems - this can coke up and restrict the inlet manifold. the EGR valve can stick open, loosing boost pressure and reducing energy to the turbine. the VNT (variable nozzle turbo) has vanes that can be coked up/ jammed.
