I guess try backing up your save file, reinstall a fresh copy, and execute the imagecfg.exe file on it before starting it up and see if that solves it. I see. I guess I'll try imagecfg, then. Not sure it'll work, as I have a feeling a system update that I applied long ago killed something for me.
Or you can just install on PC, apply a no-CD and a widescreen patch, copy the installation folder to the Steam Deck and add the exe as a non-steam game. Run via Proton 7 and enjoy. Using the Universal Widescreen patcher for NFSU/U2 also helps avoid the need for dinput8.dll shenanigans.
