Clean the PS3, clean the disks, keep it in a cool place. It's on a per game basis, as far as I know. Has to do with how optimized the game is for the platform, and the PS3 is often given the short shrift on multiplatform releases. Far Cry 3 and Dishonored, I know are supposed to have a decent amount of screen tearing on PS3.

Incidentally I took a blast from an RPG knocking me down and freeing the weapon from my arm. Also you might wanna delete the game data and any updates then reinstall the game data.
